Back Story | ||
I was on vacation, staying at Lighthouse Court in Key West, which was a gay men's clothing-optional resort. I had been having lots of fun during my stay, and one evening alone in my hotel room I was super horny. All I had to do was touch my nipples and my dick would get rock hard. I'd go back to watching TV (an episode of Lovejoy Mysteries) and it would go soft again. Then I'd touch my nipples and it would spring right back up. So what did I do? I grabbed my video camera, set it between my legs, and captured some foootage. Once back home I figured I would see if there was anything I could do with it. I imported it into the computer, selected the best clip, and did a copy, paste, paste, paste thing to simulate a loop. I sped it up to keep it fast-paced. It would have been way too slow otherwise. I thought it would just be a matter of speeding up the whole clip, but it turned out I had to cut it into sub-clips and use different speeds for different segments for it to look good. The video needed a music backdrop. The song "The Bad Touch" by the Bloodhound Gang seemed the obvious choice. I had a copy in my iTunes library so it was easy to import. I didn't try to synchronize the images to the sound, or use the song's full running time, or anything like that. I started the song at an appropriate point, used as many iterations of the video loop as was needed to make it long enough to be a decent video but not so long that it would get gonged or otherwise overstay its welcome, and just faded it all out at the end. I don't know that I specifically produced this video for the Gong Show or if it was just for my own enjoyment, but it was a good fit. I submitted it and they screened it. I think I got 3rd place. I can't really remember to be honest, but that was what I got every other time so it sounds about right. This marked the end of my Gong Show tenure. The following year I finally finished "Wasteland" but the MIX festival chose not to accept it. I was in the midst of my adventure in Palm Springs when the festival took place, so I didn't even attend. That marked the beginning of a period of inactivity for me and video production. By the time I returned with "Narcissus' Kaleidoscope" in 2007 the MIX festival was no longer doing the Gong Show program. But over the years it had a big influence on my approach to filmmaking and a significant impact on the quantity of work I produced. The Gong Show was a major factor in my filmmaking journey, not to mention being a lot of fun. |
